Free hardware tests that run entirely in your browser
Device Tests is a collection of quick, no-install checks for the hardware you use every day. Before an important video call, open the webcam test to see a live preview together with the real resolution, measured frame rate and aspect ratio your camera delivers. The microphone test shows a live level meter, waveform and spectrum, reports peak levels in dB and lets you record a five-second sample to hear exactly how you sound, with or without noise suppression and echo cancellation.
Setting up new speakers or headphones? The speaker test plays left, right and center channel checks, a full 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency sweep, adjustable test tones and white or pink noise, and in supported browsers lets you choose which output device to use. For input devices, the keyboard tester lights up every key on a full-size layout, shows the key, code and location of each press and reveals ghosting when several keys are held at once. The mouse test checks all five buttons and the scroll wheel, catches worn switches that double-click by themselves, measures your double-click speed and estimates the polling rate of your mouse.
Private, instant and permission-friendly
Every test uses standard browser features such as getUserMedia, the Web Audio API and keyboard and pointer events. Nothing is installed, there is no account, and nothing you record, type or click is uploaded or stored — all processing happens on your own device. The camera and microphone are only requested after you press a start button, and pressing stop releases them immediately so the camera light switches off and other apps can use the device again.
If a test cannot access your camera or microphone, click the lock or camera icon in your browser's address bar to allow access for this site, and check your operating system's privacy settings. Close other apps that might be using the device, then try again. The tools work in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, and most also work on phones and tablets.
